ST. PAUL, Minn., October 2, 2020 — Minnesota Department of Commerce’s announcement today on 2021 insurance rates is promising news, as it reflects the increasing stability in the individual and small group health plans in our state. Minnesota’s reinsurance program continues to play a major role in bringing that stabilization to the market, significantly lowering premiums by covering a portion of high-cost medical bills that premiums would otherwise need to cover. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done to bend the underlying medical cost curve down to support affordability, and we look forward to working with the state on solutions. –Lucas Nesse, President and CEO, Minnesota Council of Health Plans
