Today, the Minnesota Council of Health Plans and several health plans launched an educational campaign to build awareness about the importance of making sure children are up-to-date on immunizations.
According to recent reports from the CDC and the Minnesota Department of Health, under 50% of Minnesota’s two-year-olds are caught up on immunizations. This number has fallen since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, making Minnesota’s children and communities more vulnerable to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases like measles, polio, and influenza.
Encouraging families to get back into their provider for routine check-ups and immunizations is an important way to promote a healthy start for Minnesota children. These educational materials are intended to help families understand the importance of making sure children are up to date on vaccines with information, timing, and resources on the the “Big 10”- the vaccines given to most babies from birth up to 23 months. The materials are available in English, Spanish, Hmong & Somali and in audio format in each language. Print versions in each language are also available.
This project was completed through a collaborative effort with the Healthy Start Performance Improvement Project. Participating plans include:
- Blue Plus
- HealthPartners
- Hennepin Health
- Medica
- South Country Health Alliance
- UCare
